Unfortunately I cannot answer your question about a Platinum Gold paint finish, but a product that will pretty much give a shine to any paint finish after polishing the car would be Autoglym Extra Gloss Protector.

Most of the shine is in the prep work. Did you clay the car before polishing?

If your paint is faded polishing will just make it look bloomy, I would suggest getting it machine polished.

Mine is Platinum Gold and I agree with you - I don't know whether the pearlescent paint has anything to do with it

Anyway, I'm going to get it detailed soon and I'll let you know if there's any significant difference.

Shine is all in the preparation. If it's never been done fully before, all you are doing is polishing over the top of muck and grime.

1) Start with a detox shampoo to remove all the traffic film, old polish and waxes etc.
2) Use a tar and glue remover to cleanse every panel then re-wash the car.
3) Clay bar each panel to remove all the more stubborn tar and artefacts, then final wash.
4) Now you can compound the car, selecting a product suited to the condition of the paint, personally I like Meguiars stuff. Ultimate Compound removes light swirls and gives a nice clean feel.
5) After compounding I use Meguiars Ultimate Polish, it is a Polish and a glaze sealant so effectively seals in all the work you have done up to this point. A good glaze also has the benefit of disguising some swirls the compound didn't remove.
6) Wax - Debate will rage on for what is best, I just add Farecla G3 Supergloss Paste Wax

Platinum Gold is a metallic paint and the shine can flip from silver to gold in good sunlight. Preparing the paint meticulously before polishing and waxing will allow the light to reflect off the metallic flakes better, and give you that shine.

When I first bought my Typhoon it was flat, ad no shine and looked like Oddyssey Blue.
It took almost 3 days of work to get some life back into it

Probably the best one step product you could use for a real good shine on your colour is Poorboy's White Diamond. It's a glaze, which basically helps fill in any wee swirls. It adds high gloss to silvers/white/light blues etc.

It's very very easy used, however must be topped with some form of wax/sealant. As said previous, the shine comes with prep. A wax, for the most part, only seals in what you already have, and although will add some gloss, it's mainly from any previous polishing.

Compounding/polishing will be better, but this is a quick solution.

My brother only uses Proshine stuff. Says it is the best you can buy, and it ain't cheap. Uses it on his Jag XKR, every Sunday, (takes about 7 hours as he details it) but his car is literally showroom condition. Water doesn't bead off it; the drops stop about an inch away, look at the car, and then move laterally till they are out of the path of the bodywork, and then fall to the floor!

I admit to being hopeless at cleaning my car. Turtlewax wash and go, then hose off is about all I do. Generally just don't have time or inclination.
