How does it know the boots open

How does the car sense that the tailgate is open? My rebuilt tourer occasionally chirps to say boot is open. Is it an earth through the lock?

I believe its through the lock itself yes...

The circuit diagram shows a there's a switch mechanism. Don't know if it's integrated in the lock or is a separate unit. Have you checked under and around the upper edge of the boot opening?
