KV6 Thermostat Straight Pipe Plastic Clips
So...What do those one time use fixings, knock off jubilee clips actually DO?
We may have replaced the thermosat without them and now I have an untraceable coolant loss.... |

They stop the sleeve sliding up and down, it keeps the ends in the correct position in the water pump casting and the thermostat body.

Without them to act as a brace, "rocking" of the thermostat housing is likely leading to a cracked unit

They are belt and braces, but of no practical use if the pipe is installed correctly.
They are, in principle re-useable, but in practice they get brittle. You can use hose clamps or cable ties if you wish. I doubt your leak will come from from there.
