What is the life of our hoses ?
With my trusty kv6 now 22 years old , every time I open the bonnet I find myself looking at the rubber hoses . I am not seeing or feeling anything wrong but am wondering how much longer before they become unhappy
Has anyone any experience of age-related problems with them yet ? Whilst Rimmers seem to have them in stock , the prices are a bit breathtaking , and most are described as original MG-Rover . Does this mean they were made before 2005 , or just made to their spec by an original supplier ?

Although I've had one KV6 with a sweaty large radiator hose which was tacky to the touch, all other ones I've seen have been fine.
I recall an owner who was concerned at the age of his Rover SD1 hoses and wanted them all swopped for new "genuine" hoses from Rimmer's. One small hose going to the heater failed just a few months later, luckily he stopped and the car was recovered. I looked at the failed hose and found it had no braiding (reinforcement) unlike the originals, luckily I'd kept the old hoses up in the attic and swopped the new ones for the originals. If it ain't ... Regards |

My 75 is even older than yours Chris, coming up to 24 years old and as you say, the hoses look as good as the day the factory fitted them. My SD1 was 36 years old when I sold it and in that time it had only one replacement coolant hose (it developed what's best described as a blister). i trust that answers your question! Simon

I'll stop looking at them and concentrate on the bouncing exhaust and the peeling roof laquer !

The hoses could have been made yesterday by macafee2 engineering that did not come into existence until the day before. Genuine.....Rimmers call stuff genuine if they get it from, I think X-part, when, where and by whom does not matter! Rant over macafee2 |
