Default Rear sill

This is the 2nd piece of work to be done on the rear offside sill in around 8 years. Obviously, the 1st job wasn't carried out to last.
A few pictures of recent work I've had on the offside rear sill. Common Lane restorations carried out the work and inserted one of Tom Hob's replacement sills. It was discovered that there was more going on behind the scenes and a section near the jacking point had to be constructed to help support it. Pictures to follow of the final job. Try turning the 1st pic 90 deg to the right to obtain the correct orientation. The brush alongside gives you an idea of where the picture was taken. i.e inside the wheel arch looking along the edge of the sill that has been sanded down to reveal the extent of the rust. I thought my nearside sill was OK, but it turns out that this will require similar work in the not-too-distant future. Tin worm is not all it seems and what we see on the outside does not reveal the true story of what's happening behind our sills. I believe I have found a gem for this type of work since Common Lane restorations had a large workshop full of cars much older. They have even gone International and have cars shipped over from Sweden and the US for repair. https://www.commonlanerestorations.com/

Default Not only these cars...

I've spent over a week welding metal into another old car, I should be finished tomorrow on it. The car is a Mercedes 123 Coupe and it's been laid up in dry storage for twenty years, the welding has been quite involved and intricate to say the least. The car is going off to the body shop for a full paint tomorrow afternoon after I finish the welding, I'll post some pictures, our cars are a doddle in comparison.

Hi Dave
First of all sorry for the no-show at the Nanomeet on Saturday. I was traveling from Devon on Friday and didn't fancy another journey back south. I hope you had a good day.

Gary at Common Lane Restoration was very good. I will be going back as the workmanship was excellent- you feel in safe hands from guys that know what they are doing! The nearside rear sill will need attention by the end of the year.

This is so familiar. My inner sill has rotted through in exactly the same place and similarly at the front of the car. I've folded up a 2" high section to weld in along with one of Tom's jacking points (though still have to fabricate a new front jacking point). Also the bottom foot of the inner wing needs replacement as well as dealing with holes adjcacent to the vent pipe cover.
