I spoke with Peter yesterday, and he certainly appreciates contact from the club.
His left leg and arm are not responsive yet, but it may be too soon to expect that. He told me that his son will be travelling down from Glasgow to visit, and a daughter is coming shortly from Hong Kong. He also spoke about getting down to a Frimley meet again, although he calls it Farnborough. I think there was an assumption that he will drive again, which shows hope. Gatekeeper and Raven black were both mentioned by Peter, regarding phone calls that he has received. I had actually texted him the day before, for a good time to ring, so as to avoid meal times and rehab sessions; he replied to just ring at anytime, and take pot luck. Regards Mike

Thanks for that Mike and you, especially, know the value in setting targets. I do hope that Peter makes steady progress.

Rang Peter again this afternoon; he's got 1 week left of his 4 week rehab.
Some movement now with his left leg, but not strong enough to start walking. I'm afraid that I may have detected that he is now getting dispirited, quite understandable really. His wife is at home, and apparently not coping well at all; she is 90, so a little older than Peter. They have 3 children, not the two previously mentioned; a son in Scotland and another in Hong Kong; a daughter lives fairly locally to them. There is a possibility that his 4 weeks will go to 6, and social services are starting to evaluate what adaptations their house will need. I suspect that this evaluation is why he may stay longer in hospital, I have heard the same scenario many times, whilst in rehab myself. I hope I'm wrong, but I do wonder if his speech is starting to get affected; I had difficulty at times understanding everything. I emphasised that many people do improve after a stroke, and that his leg movement is a good sign. He spoke more than listened, which I don't recall from last week. Mike

I have just had a chat with Peter and he is happy for me to post this.
He is struggling to get movement in an arm and is having therapy to assist in that. He sounds frustrated with the slowness of any recovery. He appreciates the messages of goodwill from the Club and "looks forward to being able to get back to driving".. Then the vampires arrived to take a blood sample. |

I have just had another chat with Peter, and he says "Hi" to everybody.
Peter has been transferred to a specialist Neurological unit at Salisbury. He is getting more constant therapy and though frustrated, has had some encouraging results so far, though slow. Certain things need "rewiring", his description. Also Peter adds that he is becoming converted towards the therapy having been a "doubter". His son has come over from Hong Kong to be around him for a while. Fred (planenut) Last edited by planenut; 16th December 2023 at 13:39.. |

I have just had a chat with Peter by telephone. He's been at home for a while now and is frustrated with his "slow progress", and the need for help several times a day.
To help him, he is having a few things done at home in the hope that as things improve with his mobility, he can achieve more himself. Some domestic complications due to work being carried out isn't helping with little annoyances. Peter sends his wishes to everybody and apologizes for not having been on the forum much. He will ask his son to check out his subscription status. Fred (planenut) |
