Can I change headlights over?

My "new" 02 plate Connoisseur has all four standard filament bulbs, while my old 04 Club has two Xenons. I'd like to swap them over but is it just a simple matter of dropping the bumper etc and undoing the four bolts - or is there some additional wiring involved for the Xenons? Many thanks.

Alternatively will different bulbs improve the lights?

Plug and play, did it years ago. You can just undo the top bolts along the bumper and tilt it forward to get at the bottom light fixings 😎

Yes , as above , but bear in mind you will need to re align the heights and angles of the new light beams again . A garage or test station could do that for you.

A simple swap - although beware some testers will be iffy if there's no self-levelling and wash function fitted.
To get around this I fitted Halogen projectors which I then retro-fitted with Xenons - I just have to switch back to 'regular' bulbs for the MOT.

How odd. Why do you need washers on the Xenons? I'm not sure mine have ever worked in the ten years I've owned the car, and I've four Xenons on my V6 but they don't give as good a light in the country I'm convinced.

MoT test manual states:

Vehicles with high intensity discharge (HID) or LED dipped beam headlamps may be fitted with a suspension or headlamp self-levelling system. If these systems have been fitted, they must work.

Sometimes it is not easy to determine if the self-levelling systems work. In such cases you should give the benefit of the doubt.

You can identify HID headlamps from:

*‘DCR’ mark on the headlamp lens or body
*an igniter module or inverter behind the headlamp
*taking a few seconds to reach full intensity
*a bluish tinge to the light
HID headlamps use high voltage. You should take care when inspecting these headlamps.

4.1.6. Headlamp cleaning devices
You must inspect vehicles first used on or after 1 September 2009 equipped with headlamp washers.

You can identify HID headlamps from:

*‘DCR’ mark on the headlamp lens or body
*an igniter module or inverter behind the headlamp
*taking a few seconds to reach full intensity
*a bluish tinge to the light
HID headlamps use high voltage. You should take care when inspecting these headlamps.

As the 75/ZT is older than 2009, I don't think they should fail you on a lack of washers? Equally, if you don't fit the levelling system, I don't think they can fail you for it not working if it isn't there?!
