So-called Smart Meters
Anyone else suffering harassment and downright trickery to have a smart meter forced on to them? I'm with So Energy and thought that they were a great little outfit for a while but the last couple of years or so I've experienced a big uptick in pressure to accept a so-called smart meter. Frankly I'm so fed up with it that I'm now looking to switch next month to another provider but wonder if it will be any different. Are they all the same or maybe some are better or worse, what is your experience re this.

I've left feedback today on the .gov site about this. From what I've read the expenses fiddlers and their appointees are complicit in this harassment, I therefore felt it my public duty to point out to .gov that harassment is a criminal offence.

I was forever getting phone calls and texts from Shell Energy, trying to get me to have one of their so-called smart meters.
I stored the number in my phone, so that I could ignore them when they called. I also reported the texts as spam, although I don't know if that did any good. After a while, they changed their tactics, by using a different number every time they called. They've now sold out to Octopus, so we'll have to see what tactics they employ. |

I think they are all the same, last year we had to have a gas and electricity smart meter fitted. Ours were the old type and the certification was at its expiry, according to the bloke who came to fit them the old types are no longer available. Obsolete, like many things that work as they should.
I tried to stall it for as long as I could, but eventually I had no option |

I've reported unsolicited emails about this as spam. If enough reports are made it can trigger an email provider to block them at source. Regards having a smart meter forced on to you when replacement is due, you do not have to accept the so-called smart function and can insist on it being disabled. Click
Got to go into town now so will not be able to reply for a while. |

Yu Energy
How dare you suggest that these are the worst energy suppliers, or that they are all as bad as each other!!!
It is very clear that Yu Energy are the very worst suppliers in the world!!! I've been with them for over a year now. Every monthly bill is incorrect. The monthly overcharges range from £250 to over £2000. I've complained twice to the energy ombudsman who have upheld every complaint I made and ordered Yu energy to compensate me and correct the bills. Eventually after arguing with the ombudsman they corrected the bill. The next month they overcharged by £200. They agree they have overcharged and just refuse to correct it. I'm about to make my third complaint to the ombudsman. If you saw this behaviour in a film you would say it is too far fetched, but believe me it is exactly how they do business, bullying by email, phone and letter. So let's have no more nonsense about who is worst. Yu Energy are head and shoulders below the worst of the worst. Phil |

I was under the impression that if you change your supplier, they will only accept you if you have a smart meter fitted, another ploy to get one installed i think.
We where moved from Scottish to OVO a couple of years now because they sold out to OVO they tried to get is to have one we denied entrance and to accept their fitting day they gave up after about 6 months.

There was a recent TV interview where it was stated that "smart meters" were there to simplyfy meter reading!!!.
The truth is, it to enable load shedding by pricing, ie if you want to use your cooker at a peak time then you pay more 1600 - 1900. So it's washing machines on at midnight. Shell itself did not call me it was SMS, Smart Meter Services and I told them it was not a requirement and I would not accept one. They tried the "old meter" trick but that did not work either. Best part of a of this, the multi Billion cost of this unwanted rollout is being paid for by US in our present bills. |
