Well got the new exhaust fitted yesterday from the CAT back at RMS in Prestwick.
It wasn’t a nice experience. I'm not into slagging companies off or likewise but thought it best to tell of my experience, just in case anyone is considering an exhaust in the future and was thinking about using this place. RMS wasn’t what I expected. Their web site doesn’t match the reality. They came across as a traditional engineering business in need of updating and are located in a unit that really could do with a clean and tidy. The customer service was very poor indeed. I arrived 10 mins before they asked me to, went into the reception (smoke filled and dirty) and despite being noticed by George (Owner) he continued to sit (smoking) on his PC looking through e-bay. Eventually I had to say to him so that he would move off his seat! A selection of finishers were on display and he suggested a 5" oval for the ZT. I likes a squarer one which I though fitted the bumper cut-out but waited until the old exhaust was off before holding the different finishers upto the bumper cut-out. I was asked to wait in the waiting area, a small portacabin on the other side of the small yard. You cant see your car from this point. The fitter removed old exhaust was cut off and we decided the squarer finisher was better than the oval. “That will be an extra £20” Alarm bells start ringing. I asked him if the price given includes finishers. It does but only the 5” Oval. Told him this wasn’t explained to me. He shrugged his shoulders. Reluctantly I agreed to the extra £20 for the square finisher. The old exhaust was lying on the floor and out of curiosity I asked what size of pipe it was. I think he said 4 ¾” but we are putting on 3 ¾”. More alarm bells! “Oh no your not! You’ll be putting on what comes off or a larger size. You shouldn’t be reducing the output of the system, thus restricting the exhaust” I told him. The fitter agreed with me, but he told me George quotes all jobs based on using smaller pipes sizes. I was not pleased to say the least. I told him to fit equivalent size. It was fitted and the car was off the ramp without inviting me to see/inspect it. He than had the cheek to add £80+ extra onto the quoted price! Told him the think again. We came to an agreement where I paid, reluctantly, and extra £40. The job took 4 hours, no offer of tea, coffee or anything from RMS. Nowt. I haven’t seen the exhaust as the car was off the ramp without being offered the chance of viewing it and I was back in Glasgow then it was dark and the wife is away with it today. On the positive side, on the run back to Glasgow, what a great difference. The sound is great, acceleration has improved and torque also so it goes a lot better. Sorry if it sounds a bit negative, but like I say, this is only my experience. If you are considering RMS, and don’t get me wrong their prices are great, just confirm what you will be getting so that you avoid an unexpected bigger bill and don't expect any customer service! Mmm doesnt sound great at all mate...
Im not sure anyone would be happy with being quoted smaller bore price then be expected to just pay extra for the right size... Good on you for argueing the point many people would have just laid down and taken it. Customer service nowadays leaves a lot to be desired Martin |

I'm pleased with the end result. The V6 sound and increased power etc is just great. Your back box may be a lot smaller that you expect. The one that came of mine was huge! and very heavy but the new one is a lot smaller. |

radiator fan
Hello all,
I have seen some issues on this forum about radiator fan failures and I am wondering which type of fan (the early or late type fan) do I have on my MG ZTT 190 first registered in August 2003. My car has now 70.000 km on the clock and I am wondering when the fan (and vis motors) will fail. I live in Luxembourg and I have to learn more about my car as there is no MG specialist who I can trust. I have also trouble to find a rear exhaust and to get the right coulour as touch up paint (IAB Typhoon) I like my car and I want to keep it for a long time. Many thanks for all suggestions, Eric (Luxembourg) |
