High level stop light
Can anyone offer a working high level brake light for the middle of the back window (2004 facelift 75 saloon)?
It uses LEDs so surprising it failed, but there is voltage but no light when the main brake lights come on, so that's what it seems to be. Rimmers are out of stock. |

Thanks for the offers above and by PM. It won't take long to pick one, so it looks like I'll have full brake lighting in a few days.
I took the old unit apart to check exactly what was wrong. There are 16 LEDs in blocks of four, and half of them had failed open circuit. The way it was wired means that the one block, where all four had failed, broke the circuit for the whole lot. Not sure why so many solid state LEDs should fail, as the unit was fitted with thermistor and diode for protection against positive and negative voltage spikes. It could have been vibration. When I got the car it took almost a month to trace the annoying buzz in the back to the loose fixing nuts on this brake light. The previous owner was clearly not too fussed with non-essential maintenance, so goodness knows how long it had been like that. I guess the LEDs vibrated to death. |
