Precisely! (It also reduces heavy deposits on the turbo if the breather is routed back to the air intake - Closed Crankcase Ventilation)

They are, but you don't need to replace the whole casing, hence why its cheaper just to replace the innards.

I fitted the later type mainly because the bracket that holds the filter on the older type had broken on mine so I thought I may as well upgrade but over night I dropped about 5MPG

Could this be connected with changing to the newer type?

Unless the previous one was holding the car back a little bit, and he's "using" the new found power a bit more

Hi carl.
Yes the new blue filter will fit.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...=STRK:MEWNX:IT

First remove the cover by unbolting the three fittings.

Remove the air filter bolts below three.

remove the two other bolts holding the plastic case below.

proceed to pull towrds you and remove the air induction and place in a safe place with all bolts.

Now remove the cover over the air filter and PCV filter not forgeting to also remove the oil filler cap. but once the case is removed replace oil filler cap to stop any bit falling inside. use an allen key for these fixings.

Once removed this will reveil the air filter and PCV filter below.

If the air filter needs replacing do this at the same time below.once the PCV filter as been change.

Next remove the rail holding the wires to the injecters and move this out of your way to one side. this will allow you to get to the fuel lines which have to be poped out but great care is taken in this so not to break the fixing.

You now have access to the fuel lines which need the circlips removed before poping out the fuel lines with a this screw driver be carefull do not rush they will lift out qutie easy.

Now you can remove the lid off the PCV fliter with again an allen key below taking care not to lose the bolts.

Once removed you can change the filter after cleaning out all the old muck note the rubber seals these can be canged also as these will come with your newly purchased PCV filter.

clean out the top with an old cloth or paper towel replace the rubber ring as below.

Refiting is reversal of all above finaly clean out the air filter box of any mes fit air filter time about an hour pick a dry day unless you have a garage or cover.

Job done accept for the three bolts holding the air filter case to the front panel. which i also replaced new later that day. i bought two blue PCV filter ready for the next time it needs doing i purchased mine from Jules though.

Just a quick tip on the injector wiring rail. You don't need one of those fancy torx sockets. I just used a normal M5 (or m6, I can't remember now) hex socket.
