Help Please. Heater Not working - Cold Air Only
Hello All,
Re: Rover 75, 1999, CDT (diesel), 162,000 Miles, 2,000 miles since £581 spent on new clutch/dmf/master & slave cylinders, another thing to go wrong! Very frustrating! My wife has just phoned me to tell me that there is no heat from the vents. It was working fine yesterday. The only difference between yesterday and today is that the sun has turned up (in Crawley), but is still windy! Any ideas on how to check and also about cost to replace/repair/fix? Themostat? Solenoids under the carpet? Heater Control Unit (though I think this would be unlikely) Many thanks, Ahmed.

Check coolant level first, if the heat was fine a couple of days ago this is the most likely fault.
If it needs topping up because you're losing it, I'd replace the 2 o-rings on the coolant cap. Worked for me..

heaters not working
Hi over the past few weeks i have had a similar problem with no heat at the time i was also losing a small amount of water and could not find out if it was leaking or not, after investigation it turned out to be an airlock after curing the airlock problem the heaters worked but was still losing water after a long trip to London and back from my home in Liverpool i had a large water loss and the heaters obviously not working the problem i have found is the O ring seal that is on the upper hose elbow unit at the top of the radiator left hand side as you look from the front so i would first check if you are losing water then check under the unit to see if there is evidence of leaking there should be staining or rust running down the left side of the radiator i hope this is a help

Hello All
Sorry, have missed the forum for a few days. There is no water loss anywhere in my car. Thing is, its taking a much longer time for the heat to start comming through the vents. At best its mildly war, but not blasting hot like it normally is. The temperature gauge struggles to get to the 9'oclock position, and it mostly stays just below the halfway point between 0 and9'o clock. If its the thermostat, how big a job is it? Thanks, A

A few hours to replace the original, or you can buy an inline stat and easily fit that instead.
Do make sure you aren't losing water first though, as another common leak point is the thermostat housing itself, and if that is the case, you will have to strip it out anyway to fix the leak. Mike Last edited by Mike Noc; 6th January 2012 at 21:58.. |
