Default New noise

I was driving my diesel auto last night, and i could hear a distinct clatter that was not there before, you know what it is like when its your car you tend to notice new things.

Went out in it this morning and it was slightly there, but could not hear it all the time, but only done about 6 miles today.

Any thoughts as to why there may be a sudden change in engine noise? It is not horrific, its just that I have noticed a new noise.

Thanks in anticipation

Ian

Crankshaft pulley? Rubber mount breaking up....?

I was extremely lucky when mine went, in that I was actually making a social call on my mechanic. On arrival he walked over my car, asked me to pop the bonnet, listened for about two seconds and said, "your crank pulleys goosed, I will order you one, bring the car in tomorrow to have it fitted".. .. I said OK.. And on my way to the garage next day my engine started to make very alarming noises, turned out the pulley had finally separated completely and the crank was spinning independently of the pulley, the rubber bonding had almost vanished completely...
