Reminds me of staying at my grannie's when I was young. She didn't keep the blankets in a cupboard/drawer, she just kept them on the beds. You just about needed a car jack to lift them to get in the bed then the weight of them pinned you down!

Bit of a disastrous trip into town! Said I'd top a friend's mobile up, wasn't 100% sure about the number so checked my phone . . . . stone dead! Remembered I'd seen disposable chargers somewhere local but couldn't remember where, found them after wandering around several shops. Top up sorted, I'll get a haircut. Went along, shut, as in shut shut, he's retired! Didn't say anything about retiring last time I was in. Need to rethink my haircut strategy!
If you're ever stuck with a dead phone those disposable chargers work quite well, only £2.50 in my local Coop and took the phone from zero to 25% in no time at all. |

Them's handy Steve, I've never heard of them before, Mind you I've not long since got myself a smartphone. Speaking of gadgets have you seen this new Google Pixel buds translation doodah! They can translate 40 languages in almost real time....Don't think they do Scottish or Geordie though https://www.engadget.com/2017/10/04/...nge-the-world/ Looks like translators are going to be out of a job pretty soon. Chucking it down here at the moment. I haven't done a tap all day except watch a few Capt America films. Beef stew & mash for tea, I've been told no dumplings! everyones on a diet here.

I'm glad I remembered seeing them even if I had to hunt them down, otherwise would have meant a trip back home to get the number.
As for translation, Geordie I understand but there used to be a Newcastle based driver that worked into my depot now and then. He was from Sunderland, jeez, he seriously needed subtitles! Another was a guy who started as a secondman, he was white but had been raised in Jamaica and had the thickest Jamaican accent you could ever imagine, his nickname was "The White Honky"! Funniest one with him was he and a driver were working a train to Newcastle, they were stopped at a signal at Morpeth, he went to the signal phone to speak to the signaller. He came back up into the cab and told the driver that the signaller wanted to speak to him. The driver went to the phone and the first word the signaller uttered were "who the f... was that? I couldn't understand a word he said!" Last edited by stevestrat; 5th October 2017 at 16:09.. |

I remember it well, six of us, I was always the one who had the Dufflecoat peg digging into me, Quilt's came about 20 years later.
