It is HMS Dragon shadowing the Vice Admiral Kulakov about 30 miles off Scotland. Apparently the tv channel Russia Today announced on 15 April that the Kulakov would be sailing off the UK’s coast and Dragon was dispatched from Portsmouth 3 days later in response. Since Putin threw his dolls out of his pram a few years back this is not an uncommon occurrence and similar games are routinely played out in the air too.

Maybe the cost of these naval intercepts should be billed to the expenses fiddlers who presided over the scrapping of our Nimrod maritime patrol aircraft.

Well they sent the Admiral Kuznetsov for a drive by last week on its way to Syria:

Problem is as the Russian Navy have no RAS they it would appear the fuel light is on on the dash:

Opps.

More concerning is all this is beginning to look very familier in a historical sense ..

Just been reported that 800 British soldiers are to be sent to the Estonian border with Challenger tanks in support.

The lack of working armament in our military doesn't suprise me..

years ago I was on a Frigate as part of the Ships flight down in the Falklands.

and as far as ship goes, out of the Sea wolf, Exocet and AA Guns.. only the AA guns were serviceable - that was for almost the full 6 month trip.

However, our Lynx was serviceable......... thankfully..

exactly... if only.. the Navy is defo not what what it was.. Even in my years in the Navy it changed drastically.. and in my view the recent scrapping of certain warships was a bad move.. resulting in short term monetary gains only..

and I agree with what you said about the subs George.. they are the bees knees in my view, ours are excellent...
