To answer your questions prior to your garage visit Robert, yes, T4 is MG Rover's specific diagnostic system and it is much more comprehensive than generic equipment.
I don't believe that the ABS wheel sensors are your problem. They would not trigger the brake system warning light. Simon

The ABS pump i used did come from a R75 cdti 2006 model with the same spec. but it was a saloon which i recon should make no difference. When fitted all worked well for a few days and about 100 miles was covered. ABS light is now staying on as soon as the car is switched on but the red brake light now only comes on when when the handbrake is used as normal. Today the mechanic checked the wires from the ABs pump and they are all ok. He checked each wheel sensor for the voltage readings as mentioned in the forum and these were ok. Each wheel when spun registered a reading on his computer. As the computer shows that the pump valve relay is at fault he advises me to locate another abs pump. Can someone advise me if this is what i should do or is the t4 system is the only one to use on these cars etc. in Ireland here there are very few of these cars left as the road tax is about €800 and insurance over€1000.00

Simon * "The pump valve relay" is very ambiguous. There are eight solenoid valves in the ABS modulator, two per wheel, and traction control versions have additional shut-off and changeover valves. The pump is a separate unit within the modulator.

sd1too, many thanks for the advice. Another Rover owner i know tells me there is someone in northern Irl. with the T4 . The membership of the NI club will be in the post in the morning and i will find out where to go. i will let you all know what the problem was when i get it fixed. I might try the , grumpyshouse method myself tomorrow.
