Apparently a Witter R31 fits both MG & Rover, saloon & tourer:

I hope you fitted a fuse in that feed, close to the battery?

There is a purpose made feed for the job, just tucked away behind the glovebox. Likely the other end for it, will be tucked away under the engine fuse box. From memory it is a thick orange/grey. That just needs to be connected and the fuse added.

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

What size & current rating is the wire ?
Is there a fuse position set aside in the engine fusebox for this fuse ?
If so, where should this wire connect to the engine fusebox ?
And where does this wire connect to in the interior fuse box area ?

It is a long time since I did mine, but.....

How much of the installation was completed whilst on the production line, varies from car to car. The cable is a 4mm or 6mm, the end of which is located behind the glovebox, likely taped up. From memory it is Orange with a Slate (grey) tracer.

In the engine compartment, it might also be taped up under the fusebox, ready to plug in. Check the fuse list to find where it was intended to go, then unbolt the fusebox to connect it if necessary.

Then it just needs the fuse plugging in.

If the feed is intended to supply battery charging and a fridge, I would suggest the bigger the feed run from front of the car to the rear, the better - just so as to avoid voltage drop. 2x 4mm or 1x 6mm as a minimum. It isn't about current rating, its about voltage dropping over what is a long run of cable for 12v.

Many professional installers just install a cable rated for the current, then you suffer volts drop, which causes issues with battery charging, dim lights, inefficient fridge operation and the charge relay cycling as you progress down the road.

Many thanks for sharing your knowledge.
So there is no 'power' cable already fitted from the glovebox fusebox area to the towbar area ?

No, but it is not a difficult run from the glovebox to the rear. Just drop down the side, under the carpet edge, into the boot.

For the proper BMW towing relay unit/module, a second small data cable is needed from the relay to the LSM - it is just a normal thin bit of wire. It can follow the same route, then behind the dash to the LSM.
