As for buying the car back, how does that work? I might be lucky and they could fix it but I seriously doubt it. Just from looking at it, it will need a new wing, bumper, bonnet, lights, radiator, airbags, windscreen, and all the other bits that go along with it. Lots of cash I think!
when did you report it to your ins company, if it was with in an hour or two, then you wouldnt have known you had whip lash, that comes on the next morning, you may feel stiff, sore, always best to get it checked out
even if you told your ins co and they are getting "some one to call you bac" you are not obliged to use their solisitors as they make more money out of that

Dan, if you still have the car make sure it stays that way, more than likely they will want to transport it away to a compound to asses it. Once it has gone it's hard to get back.
Make it clear from the start it is at yours for them to inspect. When they make an offer refuse it and ask for a revised offer armed with the most expensive similar ones for sale and ask for a buy back price to be incorporated in their " more realistic" offer. If all else fails, get the double din out

If it is already in their possession make them in no doubt you have every intention of having the car returned and expect it to be absolutely complete and if not you will hold then responsible.

Good luck...

The car was recovered by a rescue service, and the insurance co will arrange for it to be taken to one of their garages for assessment. Obviously as the car isn't drivable, would I still be able to get it from th before the ins co arrange collection? I'm going to go over tomorrow and get a few bits out so I'll try and get the stereo out and fit the old one in its place.

The car is still yours, it's up to you whether you take cash or cash + car.

When my car was wrote off an insurance company wanted to pay me and write the car off with the option to buy it back. In the end because I argued so much I got more money AND kept the car at no cost. I think they got sick of me hassling them and reminding them at every turn I was the victim here.

This happened to me in November when a woman hit my Freelander, I called the insurance company but then took it to my trusted bodyshop who dealt wit a company called Accident Exchange ( a non fault company) I called my insurance company back & said don't bother, they said OK. The incident happened on a Friday & by Tuesday it was in the bodyshop & I was handed a like for like courtessy car - all very good service!

Winns will keep everything intact and claim against the other persons insurance without your insurance company being informed.

In case you're worried, it's no fee. They are first solicitors to provide this in UK as Winn was in a crash himself and was ****** off at being penalised through no fault of his own.

You still have to declare the accident to your insurers it's part of the terms and conditions of most policies. If you don't do it now you will have to at renewal.

I used to work in accident claims a few years back, not sure how much it has changed, BUT if the third party admits liability, deal with them direct!

Then if the car is a Total loss (Cat C/D) they pay you for the car, and then you still get to keep it without buying it back! So you can scrap/repair the car as you wish!

Hi Dan,

The main thing is that you are safe and sound, of course.

But I do so sympathise - I have annoyed enough this winter by relatively cosemetic damage caused by selfish parking.

Good luck with the insurance claim.

All the best,

Nicholas/Zircon
