Thats £450 (and Im robbing you).
You go down the high street with the other £150 you saved and buy your lass something nice for chrimbo.

Or get yourself another mate and save another £150 and buy something nice for yourself.
I would for £450 defiantly, thing is the belt snapped off the other day on way home from work so I've been using a hire car until the rovers fixed so I can't even get it to you

I think you should fix his car.
Seriously though, £600 for parts???? you could buy another 75 with 12 months MOT for that and still have an old 75 left over.

Which belt snapped tha large aux belt (power steering alternator etc) or the smaller aircon belt, the belt is easy enough to do diy I've done 3 now all you need is a trolley jack, axle stands, block of wood, socket for drivers side engine mount 8mm socket for power steering reseivour and hose, and I think a 24 mm spanner took me about an hour and that was including changing power steering pump

Its the aux belt that does the alternator and water pump etc, Im not mechanically gifted to do it myself.

Honestly it is simple, if you were closer I'd have done the belt for you so you could drive the car at least

Ask your mate: why? Are the springs broken? Are the shock absorbers leaking fluid? If the answer is no and no, you're wasting your money before the MOT.

If the ABS warning light is on, fair enough, you'll need to renew this.

That's not an MOT item!

I've never heard of this before, on any car! Perhaps he means the water pump has play in it, but I'd like to know how he's determined that! If the pump is not leaking coolant, leave well alone.

You'll need to fix that, but as said, it's a known fault. Clean and re-seat the electrical connector under the seat.

So if he's not charging labour then give him the drivebelt and ABS sensor and the bill should be £0. Then put it in for the MOT and see what happens. Don't waste your money on questionable repairs Daniel.

£210 for labour is deinitely NOT mates rates. Is he a good mate? Or is he using you as a friendly bank. I'd get some different quotes if i was you just so you have something to compare.
