Also, has an incorrect battery been fitted in the past? - It looks way too small!!

Also, the spending & modifying has begun! Albeit slowly...
I sourced a passenger side front door lock / solenoid for the faulty central locking problem that is driving my wife even more mad... As soon as it stops raining & snowing I'll attempt to get that fitted (I must admit I'm not really looking forward to that). Also - my new number plates arrived today, I am looking forward to that job - it's a bit more within my skill range! On that note - can white spirit be used to clean the body work before attaching the plates with waterproof double sided tape - I'm a little worried that it may be too harsh for the paint? Things to do
When you have a chance look at the brake pipes, it is probably the most common MOT failure. If not too bad, wire brush & Treat with grease, Waxoyl or paint them with Hammerite smooth. Treat particularly the pipes in the clips. They harbour moisture.
You can have a look by jacking up the O/S front and lying alongside the car. Plus of course under the wings.

Hi Alastair,
Re your number plate lights, you'll probably find that the soldered joint that holds the bulb holders to the PCB is corroded/broken or the PCB has a broken track or tracks. If your any good with a soldering iron they can be repaired or a new one sourced from Rimmers, South Lakeland Mini Centre or ebay or try one of the traders on the club. Mmmm, Rimmers are out of stock, South Lakeland are listing as in stock Here, one on ebay Here. To get at the bulb holder, a How to, courtesy of T-Cut. HTH .

I think I would be making a plenum check a priority judging by the ammount of crud under the bonnet, is an expensive fix if the ECU gets soaked..........

Thanks for the tips guys - I'll be doing the plenum check on Saturday, weather depending.
I got a shock this morning... My car is parked over night on a level space. I put into reverse, and as soon as I started moving I heard a sloshing sound, and a load of water poured down the plastic foot rest on the drivers side!!! When I was cleaning the car out, I did wonder why the bolt holding the footrest in was very rusty, I think I have the answer now. The water just rolled under the mat and sat there :-( Looking at a few other posts with the search facility - it appears that this may be plenum related. Can anyone offer any thoughts please? |
