No the HP pump itself isn't timed, although it is driven from the intermediate timing chain sprocket at 3/4 engine speed.

As long as the intermediate sprocket is held in place by the special tool all the time the HP pump is disconnected the timing will be not be affected.

Today I tried to remove the pump. I lifted up the engine a bit to allow the special tool to screw in and the 17 mm allen key to remove the dust cover, but the engine lifted up "to the back" and the socked it's right where the hydramount is located. Can I remove the entine hydramount to be more accesible?

The final conclusion is that for this type of repair you need an engine crane and a lot of tools. Sadly, I have not managed to get the engine up enough to make room for the special tool and for the allen key to enter. I will try to do this job again next summer with an engine crane and with much more patience.

I hope the pump will last enough, seems the leak stopped after I cleaned the pump with brake cleaner.
Thanks everyone for the help!

I have seen two types of holding tool for this job - one is shorter than the other specifically so that it can fit our engines.

Good luck with it next time.
