I have just bought a splitter off ebay...£7 inclufing postage..

won'y be able to test until I get back from my hols though as off on Tuesday very early !...and it wont get here till end of the week...

It locked on when the unit was just on the seat, but as soon as it went in the dash..nada !...

Not a very good aerial really..should have been a 12v powered one I think.

Well the station i'm trying to get it on is Radio 538 Commercial station here one of the biggest. Mostly you can get 538 on any radio without any problems. Basicly it runs on your moms washing machine if it was any more powerfull.

On my old HU i would get their RDS signal wherever i went. On this unit in my driveway no RDS on 538. Since i'm a bit sick as of today got a nice cold i din't have the will to drive around to see if i can lock it down on the right freqs.

There are some deader spots on 538 though they should be around 102.20 for my region just above amsterdam. But i've noticed they are all over the place on this unit. They range from 102.10 to 102.30 and 102.50 i can get them clear with Stereo with a little distortion in it (bit of cracling) It has become better now because i couldnt even tune it in my driveway before i hooked up the amp-c cable to the power areal.

Im thinking the areal they gave for the tmc is the baddie here and it would be wise to use a splitter like somebody else on the forums suggested.

The aerial/antenna type is a baddie. It's a medium wave AM one, rather than the VHF one which is needed. The solution for me was to make an anttena feed splitter as I could not find anywhere which sold them. Just to confirm it, try the antenna which works in your radio, in the TMC antenna socket - bet you get TMC reception straight away.

Suggestion for Radioguy....

Don't know if this might be practical, but....

Instead of including a separate antenna or a Y splitter, might it be possible to get the Chinese factory to simply include an internal link between the normal radio socket and the new TMC receiver?

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

Definate baddie on the TMC Aerial, just been out for a little drive and still no go !...tried it in all different areas and nada...

Also noticed a humming when ignition ( 1st position ) is on but the unit isn't...not sure if there's anything amis or not yet !...I never had that with my single din unit.

Camera is OK in the dark, used it a few times reversing onto my parking space, quite a bright picture, if a little grainy, but then it is dark and the view in daylight is great.

Freeview isn't much good on the move, which is a shame as it would be nice to have the radio channels ( NOT TV !!! ) whilst driving as there is some good stations on DVB..

Managed to move my favorites over from old unit to new, but they have moved in a list and not in the groups that I had..

Minor niggle on the steering wheel controls, it would have been better to scan through the memory rather than scan through frequencies with the Back / Next button and it won't work with

my music discs that I make...However, I did work out that if you have selected next on the screen, if you push the R/H button in, then it will move tracks on...

Works fine on SD though...

Oh and on the subject of SD / USB...SD fine./..USB Stick fine...BUT it won't work my External HDD, I don't think there is enough power through the port...which is a shame

Also tried a mix of Tony's files and my old files but couldn't get TMC to even search as it was asking about a license...might look at that tomorrow !...

Finnaly, I can't get Primo to work, think I need to wait until Tony gets back, unless someone has it working and would like to MSN files over ?...

Where is your TMC Antenna Mark ?

Also noticed a humming when ignition ( 1st position ) is on but the unit isn't...not sure if there's anything amis or not yet !...I never had that with my single din unit.

Camera is OK in the dark, used it a few times reversing onto my parking space, quite a bright picture, if a little grainy, but then it is dark and the view in daylight is great. That is CCD, If it was CMOS it would be almost Black

Freeview isn't much good on the move, which is a shame as it would be nice to have the radio channels ( NOT TV !!! ) whilst driving as there is some good stations on DVB..Your freeview Should be Very good up to abuot 180 KM/Hr. Again Antennas ? And According to Tony you should be getting DAB

Just Accept the License thing, I recall Tony saying somehing about that but there is no need for a License.

Have you selected the EXE File on the GPS Setup ? What message do you get when trying the Primo ?

We Suggested that at the time but TOny tried the seperate antenna and it seemed to be the Best solution, When you say Radio Socket, You mean the Radio Antenna Socket , right ?

A proper VHF FM antenna for the band would work, but is it worth the effort/expense/ and the problem of finding somewhere to fit it?

The Y splitter works perfectly. By radio socket, I did mean the radio antenna socket. In other words a simple link wire inside the head unit from the rear of the radio antenna socket to feed onto the TMC's antenna connection - then the TMC's short wire plus antenna socket poking out the of the rear of the unit, is not needed at all.

I would be happy to investigate doing the above and would have done it that way rather than make up a Y - but I didn't want to invalidate the warranty by opening it up.

Perhaps when Tony carried out his TMC tests, he simply plugged the cars own proper antenna into the back of the TMC? I would doubt that he tested it with the long wire antenna which you supplied us with.

Can I correct you one point point you and others seem to be confusing please? The DAB radio system operates on VHF, similar frequencies to the normal FM radio transmitters. The DVB-T receivers DO NOT receive DAB, they receive their radio channels mixed in with the digital TV feeds from the local television on the UHF transmitters. DAB is supposed to be the replacement digital system for when all of the analogue FM transmitters are switched off in a decade or so.
