How are the armature and brushes sealed from the diesel or do they run immersed ?????

Very hard to see from the pictures. MORE MYSTERY LOL.

They run immersed in the diesel and the fuel cools the motor down.

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

Our of interest it put my UBP motor back together and taped it up to hold it together as it was out of the ali canister.

Hooked direct to the car battery it runs a treat. Brushes are probably half worn from a simple visual inspection. So, I suspect the fault may well be that the pump mechanism, it is perhaps the area that evenutally gets some wear and then the two worm drives may have a tendency to lock together.

Tap the pump and pehaps this gives them them a slight jolt allowing the motor to turn them again. The worm drives are metal on metal and even thought the diesel is the lunbricant, after 3000gallons (very roughly for a 100k car) may be this fault develops? Only conjecture though; as for me, detecting wear is pobably impossible given the realtively fine tollerance the manufactured parts?

Cheers,

Rich.

Unfortunately All the aftermarket UB pumps make far more noise than the OEM Pierburgh or BMW.

Jules .. I was hoping to see your pic of the deeply worn commutator, I suspect thats the whole problem with these pumps.

Bearing in mind they run in diesel oil, I imagine the screws are non ferrous, prob brass or copper alloy. And they are unlikely to be made of the same material. I.E. one is prob softer than the other. .

Clever lil system though innit...
