Welcome along

Your 2.0 KV6 petrol is an MGR not Honda engine and is fitted with belts
The 2.0M47R engine (diesel) borrowed from BMW is chain drive

Hello Ken,

Greeners is right. The only BMW power plant fitted as standard in the factory was the M47R 2.0 diesel engine to the Rover 75. The 2.0 petrol engine was the Rover originated KV6 series which is belt not chain driven.

I have tried to look up your VIN number in the build records to see what your car is listed as but it's one of the later Cowley built cars which is missing from the database, so I can't.

However, looking at your quoted engine number and comparing it to the engine number codes for Rover 75 which you can find by opening the pdf on this page Here you'll see that your 3rd prefix code (M50) does not match the Rover 75 codes listed which is odd?

Can you post a picture of your engine, we can then identify it as the 2.0 belt driven petrol like this one

or the 2.0 diesel chain driven one like this

Thank you very much for your help the pdf attachment was very informative. As you are probably aware I have only just bought the 75, fantastic to drive auto box 90000 recorded miles. The garage (sales person) must have given me incorrect information It has to be a KV6 engine that is fitted, I shall return the car and either have the belts replaced or the purchase price refunded. Thank you once again for your help.

Hi.
You said this: I shall return the car and either have the belts replaced or the purchase price refunded.
I'm at a loss then after you: Renewed the timing chain yesterday.
Please elaborate.

Sods law more misinformation from the garage they the mechanics "apparently renewed a timing belt "not a chain. The car has very sadly been returned as a result of the very poor sales information I shall now be looking out for a Rover 75 2.5 V6 diesel with the BMW engine and timing chain. Thank you for all the help and assistance

Hi Ken
Welcome
You won't find one of those !
But you will find a 2.0 litre M47 R chain driven BMW made version (not a v6 but a 4 cylinder lump)
Regards
Steve
