Thanks for all the advice, I have gone to the Freeview HD channels and found no difference in the quality. It seems I have spent an arm and a leg for the same quality I had on my old tv, which I gave away to a nursing home. Thanks again, John.

Hi John,

As previously said you won't see any difference as HD is HD .
If anything it might even be slightly worse as you will be watching HD scaled to fit a higher resolution screen.
Your old screen you would have been watching HD on a native HD screen .

As Pete just said, you need to feed your tv an Ultra HD/4K signal to see the difference

Thanks Jeff, How do I get a Ultra HD signal if I only have a co-ax cable input?. Thanks, John.

Simplest solution would be to connect the tv to the internet and subscribe to Netflix, Amazon, or both. You could also buy a UHD Bluy ray player, quite expensive though, and of course, you would need to buy some uhd discs.

Thanks for the reply, I have a long ethernet cable, so could connect to my router, the problem is, the missus will not pay for any subscription channels as she says the telly is all rubbish anyway lol. Thanks again everybody. John.

I hammered YouTube when I first got mine all the 4k demos I could find and once you have seen a few of them try iplayer it had a 4k demo of planet earth 2 and that will pull you in more, then as has been mentioned try Netflix/Amazon for a month just make sure your tv will support the 4k version( last years top of the range Panasonic dropped the 4k Netflix when we got the HDR update)

The Planet earth dem on Iplayer is just for Panasonic Tv's so won't be available on the Sony unfortunately but as others have said there is lots of content on Youtube (just search "4k HDR video") which is free but you will need a minimum connection speed of around 17.5 megs to avoid buffering or the set reducing the resolution of the stream to avoid it. I am however surprised that the set isn't noticeably upscaling the HD channels though.
Let me know which model you have purchased and i'll check it out when i go back to work on Tues and if it's current we probably have one on display. Your set should also be wireless so no need for an ethernet cable as it should just connect directly to your router.

@Robti
Which Panasonic do you have? because as far as i'm aware all of last years 4k Panasonics are fine with Netflix 4k HDR programmes.

@Rogue sorry it's the TX-xxCX802B model so although I got it last year it's a 2015 model, we had both Netflix and Amazon in 4k for nearly a year then they gave us the HDR update and we lost the Netflix in 4k and for the last while they have blamed each other, Netflix say they pass the info on and it's up to Panasonic and Panasonic say it's up to Netflix.

Yet I can watch Netflix in 4k on my Panasonic uhd player lol
