When you check the V for stat leaks you are not looking for water just orange stains, look carefully the water evaporates very quickly due to engine heat. Dave

Possibly a worn 'O' ring on the elbow on the top left of the radiator if you look from the front.

Thanks guys, I checked the oil filler cap after a run to Birmingham and back and the mayo has gone, cap is bone dry, no sign of anything except oil on the dip stick.
Water level hasn't moved.
The V has no sign of any coolant leak or stains so I will change the O rings on the header cap and hopefully thats that.
I think I panicked when I saw the mayo on the cap and thought the worst, but it would appear these engines dont like short journeys in terms of condensation.

No internal combustion engine likes short journeys! We don't want anyone thinking that there's something inferior about MG Rover do we?

Simon.

Anyone out there know how long it actually takes to get an engine properly warmed up to working temperature?

I remember reading somewhere, years ago, that it was something like 20 miles

Somewhere, don't ask me where though, I was told/read that it takes about 8 minutes at constant motorway speed for the Oil to reach it's mean temperature.... Or something like that.
