Default Cigar lighter

Hi all, I am now the proud owner of a 2003 Club CDTI SE manual in Starlight Silver with 74K on the clock, one owner ( A member of the clergy). Before buying the Rover I logged into this website to get info as to what major faults
to look out for. What a fantastic site, after going through the forums I though that if I did have any problems with the car the info on here would help me diagnose and fix.
I am off to Oban up in bonny Scotland next month and that is 550 miles from where I live, I intend to use my sat nav, but on reading the owners handbook it says that I can't use the Cigar Lighter socket to power it
Question is this a positive no no

My Dad used to power his Tomtom in the cigar socket without any issue

It's an anti smoking device, when the sat nav is plugged in you cannot light a cigarette. Never had a problem with a sat nav in a smoking socket. I even use a power transformer to get 240v for a laptop.

Funny you say that!
My sat nav wouldn't work from the cigar lighter, so I fitted an accessory socket in the center armrest. Easy job cost about £10.
There is a how to on here, if you look.

I do know that certain 'Plugs' don't work in the socket because it doesn't make contact properly, and other 'Plugs' won't physically won't go into the socket - but very rare! But if it goes in and works there is nothing wrong, as far as I know, to use it to charge your Satnav.....
