Did the MIL occur with a cold engine?

Hi pab, I think it came on 10 miles into my journey to be honest I'm not sure, if it came on when cold what could that be?

I would be inclined to suspect a failing spark plug,or water contaminating the plug with a failing inlet manifold gasket.

With a warm engine under acceleration, perhaps a failing coil pack.

If it ignites again maybe a code will be stored.

i would check the 02 sensor .on my 1800 turbo i had the light come up twice first time no code then second time it was an 02 sensor .i cleared the code to see if it would come back but it never did .just a lost of signal i guess which put the light on .

Cheers guys! Will sort out new spark plugs asap as I never fitted new when I fitted new coil packs, will change leads too. Haven't noticed any drop in coolant level since hg was done last year. But will keep a close eye on it as the work I had done is still under guarantee.

Default Problem solved!

Took the battery out tonight to clean of the fuzz on the battery terminal so figured I would clean terminals and connectors so now looking like new. (bicarbonate of soda works wonders) followed by wire brush, decided to clean battery box while in their.
Any way thought I would check leads and coil packs to find 1 coil pack loose (plugged in but holes had threaded) so drilled , tapped and helicoiled and refitted. car runs sweet again. hopefully that is all as I have Jason coming back to me next week as leaking a little oil round rocker cover edge. advantage of 12 month guarantee.
