Vista Premium, photos and Windows Mail
I've recently installed a new computer using Vista Premium and Windows Mail for e-mail messages.
When I had Windows XP and Outlook Express sending photos was easy. As I remember, right click the photo or photo file to e-mail and it automatically asked if I wanted to make pictures smaller. How can I now reduce my photos to make the file smaller? I'm sure there's a simple answer, I just haven't found it yet Thanks, Tom

I have just checked in Vista and mine definitely comes up with an option to reduce the size if I use the option Send to and Mail Recipient. However, if I just drag the file straight in the open window of the message it attaches at full size.
However, you can always resize in a simple package like Paint and you can right click and use Open With to get Paint and then resize in that as a very simple alternative. I guess there must be a setting to have this option but I don't recall setting it. I hope someone can help you before you get a load of useful answers suggesting you should have stuck with XP or bought an Apple etc as I seem to get when asking questions about Vista. Which, I have found to be quite good and stable. |

Unfortunately Certain things were removed from Vista as not being used.
I have been through the Microsoft Press Vista Ultimate Book (US) and cannot find this mentioned but will continue to search. Its sure to be something really simple! |

As mentioned above, Simply right click the picture, and choose the "send to - mail recipient" a box appears with a drop down menu and you pick what size you want from that. this will NOT work with raw files though, only with .jpg files

Tried that but I just can't get the picture to attach to an e-mail message. I've tried creating a new message and inserting an attachment through "send to - mail recipent" function but the reduced picuture doesn't attach automatically as it used to. I'm sure there's something basic I'm missing here but what? Thanks Tatts, I'll have a look at PhotoCleaner. Tom

strange, I use that method a lot and it works fine, have you any aggressive pop up stoppers installed? as they might stop the email launching? I also use photoshop to resize before I send, but the automatic windows one should be fine

It would be one you have installed (3rd party) as vistas own stuff won't do anything unless you are doing something in internet explorer, its actually very unlikely but worth a look. Oh, one possible thing have you installed office and/or outlook recently? again straw clutching

Hooray!, looks like I fixed it.
I looked on help and found that someone had a similar problem. It was advised to set "Windows Mail" as a default programme. Now it seems to work . Anyway BMC123 thanks for all the help and guidance. Tom

Good job.. thats why I was asking had you installed office/outlook as outlook has a habit of making itself the default mail most (if not all) of the time)
