Electrical Issues Following a Clutch Change?
Hello everyone
I am not sure if the electrical issues on my wife's 75 CDT are connected with the fitting of a new clutch or coincidental but wonder if anyone else has had similar problems? 1. When driving home from having a new clutch fitted it became apparent that main beam was working but with no light on the instrument panel. 2. The driver and passenger side temperatures on the heating control panel were working on collection, showed "Er" on the journey home (about two miles) and have subsequently operated correctly. 3. When I arrived home I couldn't lock the doors from the key fob and had to lock it from the inside and then manually lock the driver's door. The fob would unlock all the doors at the first push (not only the driver's door) although in the last few days the two stage function has started working. The car will still not lock from the fob. 4. The centre and upper groups of warning lights on the instrument panel seem only to show the yellow pre-heating light and the red brake light when the ignition is switched on but the engine is not running. No other lights are illuminated. 5. There is no sound from the hazard flashers (although they operate) and the alarm light does not flash when the car is locked. It may or may not be relevant but the company had called me earlier in the day, before collection, to ask if I knew what the permanent fan type noise was under the bonnet which they found when road testing the car. They had stopped at a local garage who had connected its diagnostic machine but found no faults. I told them that the U-shaped connector on top of the FBH in front of the battery compartment was usually disconnected as the fan would operate at random. They had connected it when re-fitting the ancillaries, disconnected it after calling me and the noise disappeared. Thank you for reading this far, I appreciate any guidance you can offer on a possible fix. Don |

Some of your symptoms match those that I had from a suspected wet BCU: https://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/for...d.php?t=321472

Thanks Matt
You've reminded me that the rear windscreen light isn't showing on the heater controls and the car's at the electrician's overnight so I can't check it at present. Thanks also for the link: the electrician has mentioned the BCU although he is a generalist without access to suitable software and I am reluctant to ask him to do too much. I would much prefer to access someone (ideally in the West Midlands) who understands our cars and has experience working on them. Other than the faults, the car drives very well, especially with the replacement clutch... |

You could try a battery re-set undo the earth of the battery for about 30 minutes minimum, then reconnect see what that does for you. Even better you could try and make our first Nano meet this weekend, where you will have a few knowledgeable people to help, and maybe a T4 session FOC. https://www.midlandsnanomeets.co.uk/meets_2014.html

Thanks for the message about the nano meet this weekend, my wife and I would be delighted to attend and the opportunity to potentially access a T4 diagnosis is great. Should it be free that of course is even better but our main priority is to have the car working as it should.
We are looking forward to attending as in our limited experience of seeking help through the club we have invariably found members to be friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Would you suggest any particular day or time as being the best to visit? |

We're not sure if the organisers need to know numbers for the nano meet but we've just seen the local weather forecast and will come on Sunday as (fingers crossed) it should be dry and sunny.
