Default Rover 75 2.0 V6 Conn Petrol 190 Brake Upgrade

I wish to up upgrade the front brakes on my 75 Saloon to 190 specs and haven't really the money for buying new so has anyone got a second hand set please? Or has anyone a really cheap new set? (not really sure how much it will cost).

I live Cottingham, East Yorkshire and can collect upto around 50 miles or so or I can pay by payPal, Cheque if you can post and I'll cover the postage.

If you haven't any for sale but can offer advice on upgrading to 190 specs I'd be ever so grateful on any tips

Neill

Neill, that is not a good idea at all. Besides, the standard brakes are more than good enough for your car. If you think that their performance is disappointing then spend your money overhauling them.

not worth the hassle or the expense even if you find a cheap set.plus you will need to fit 18 wheels to clear the discs.fit a set of standard size mtec discs that will give you all the braking power you will need

Cheers - hadn't thought about changing wheels as well. The brakes have been overhauled by myself and the fluid completely flushed and bled but they still have a lot to be desired. They are the same as my 1.8 so I know they are functioning right - you just need to think about braking yesterday if you want to stop suddenly!

My wife has MS and we thought it may be fun to buy a caravan and have some caravan holidays where we can go places and when she's tired she can nip in the caravan for a lay down. And stay the night of course before moving on or just exploring an area. Hence want a bit more braking power but after all the grateful comments on changing (or rather not changing) to a 190 set up I think I'll wait until I've got the caravan and see how the brakes handle it.

Many thanks for all the advice

Neill

2nd hand is fine if you know what you are doing and what to look for in 2nd hand parts.

The calipers would be overhauled and pistons cleaned and new piston seals fitted.

The discs would be inspected to see if they are scored and not warped. There's an engineering firm near me that will mill brake discs to remove any scoring but only if the thickness of the disc would allow it. This process is not recommended for warped discs which are scrap.

Not sure if I would use 2nd hand brake pads - only if I knew they came as a job lot of discs, calipers and pads. Even then I would need to know 100% which caliper they were fitted to as pads wear differently and mixing them up is a no winner. The pads would be inspected for any brake fluid, oil, etc which may have contaminated them and even then I would wash them in brake cleaner and de-glaze them.

If you are careful and know what to look for and work safely then there is no reason not to use second hand parts. Has anyone bought a 2nd hand wooden effect steering wheel with 2nd hand airbag? A life saving device but would you trust it because it was 2nd hand? I would. Why? Because I bought my car 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc hand so everything on my car is not new anyway.

If in doubt there's quiet a few members on here who can help fit the parts - it's just finding and paying for the parts which I find difficult
