I went out looking for insects for a few mins today but it was to cold. Took this shot of some Hawthorn instead. Hope the sun shines down here soon.

Nice details Paul, particularly close up. The bee macros are my favourites of all insects

Getting back to Sony. The man from Sony arrived last night. He makes the sensors and says that I should go for a full frame. None of the full frame cameras are perfect and now I am feeling indecisive about the 6500 or getting a camera from the A7 series. Any thoughts?

In a perfect world I would take one of each Phil.

Best for high resolution/detail A7RII
Best for Video A7SII but a6500 and A7RII have 4k which is way more than I need.
Best allrounder and for sports/wildlife A6500

I have a similar dilemma for my insect shots.
The A7Rii has 42 MP and will allow me to crop in and keep a lot of detail. The dynamic range is better.

The A6500 has faster auto-focus and more depth of field.

So which to choose

The thing is each camera is better at different things
Portrait - A7RII
Sport/wildlife - the a6500 edges it for me. Faster AF and crop factor gives more reach on lenses.
Landscape - A7RII
Video - the A7SII is king but the other two are fine for my limited needs.

I could go on (there are many more pros and cons) but for me the A6500 fits more of my needs than any of the other 2. Sony are rumored to bring another camera out in June/July, I have no idea what it might be.

Thank you Paul for the intensive review and for taking the time to write it up. After much soul searching, I have decided to go for the A6500. I like the weight, the size and the minimal lag, plus the rest of the technology, all housed within a solid bod, capable of supporting the big lenses comfortably. Thank you for your help The A7SII as you said is king, but I can't imagine ever buying it. Being a pensioner, I have to watch every penny

Good thing is whichever you choose, you get an excellent camera

I have read up on various forums and many people are asking the same question - "should I buy A7RII or A6500" and the answer is undecided. Both are good and excel at different things. The A6500 is a lot less expensive.

I found this video on the subject which again does not really give a decisive answer.
