Remove the inlet manifold and clean the boost sensor (MAP) and soak it in petrol and jet wash that out too.
If the EGR is that bad then i promise you the inlet will be just as bad.

Mine was, removal is very simple!

Thank you I had read Artics How To on this subject. One reason why I checked it. Have been reading up on the Diesel engine and it's needs maintenance wise. The ECU shold be back today so will plug it in fit battery and check the fuel pumps activate and she runs. Once she is running we can start with the maintenance ready for the MOT.

Any more tips on maintenance are most welcome .

Your welcome,

Honestly there isnt really much more to do, clean the inlet/EGR and the boost pipes.
Injector clean is probably the only other one to do (i could happily do this for you if you covered postage as a one off)

Which one is that?

The white one inside the plastic ECU case?

By the way Marinabrian worked his magic and the ECU arrived back this morning and is connected and she is running. Am now working through obvious MOT faults like the front indicators were too white. Changed bulbs now Orange . She is now up on ramps and axle stands so I can fix and secure the under tray she had an oil service 2000 miles ago in April this year. However the coolant looks like it could do with changing so need to look at the inline thermostat mod and do those at the same time some time in the future after we check and renew filters that is.

Yes the relay normally gets a good drowning before the ECU

Well it seems to be working.

Have been wrestling with the rear seat squab after refitting the pump and filter covers and hoovering out half a builders yard. This interior is going to take some serious valeting to get it clean.

I wouldn't worry too much about the glowplug relay Kevin, the only time they are needed for a healthy diesel is if the temperature drops below -15

Other issues are battery drain related, but you'll know if that's the case........

Anyway, nice to hear your new acquisition is operational once more and look forward to hearing about your recommissioning progress

Brian it is hardly recommissioning as it was being used in May as I found some car park pay and display tickets for May and he has an oil change done in March and that was 2000 miles ago.

An odd thing did happen while I was fighting with the ECU cover trying to get it to fit the fan for the FBH suddenly started ran for a few seconds then shut off .

have discovered that the three cross head screws to remove the air intake just spin and do not undo and there is a squeek some where on teh rear suspension so will try dousing the rubbers and shok bottoms in silicone spray.

The other annoyance is that I cannot remove the chrome boot plinth as the two central studs are spinning in the alloy it has to come off as one boot light is non operational and the plinth is a little wobbly so need to find a good replacement.

BTW Blue the MGF passed her MOT once I fitted the MG/Rover OEM CAT.. those new ones were obviously faulty.

Sounds like you're having fun😎. Something very satisfying about getting it going again. Well done.

I had the same prob with the 'chrome' plastic plinth. Ended up being a delicate use of brute force. It's amazing what superglue does. The heads of the bolts are flat on one side and are held in plastic retaining clips. No strength there at all if the nuts are a tad tight/rusty. Just glued mine back afterwards and it worked a treat.
