Default 75 Connoisseur 2.0 V6 Petrol Automatic - "No Ping"

I no longer get a "Ping" when I press the heating controls on the old girl. Where is the unit located that produces this "Ping" and can it be easily replaced?

Many thanks

It may have got turned off by accident.

You can switch the 'ping' on and off by pressing the Auto and Off switches at the same time and holding them for at least 10 seconds

I've tried ... pressing them both at the same time and holding them in for 10 seconds ... auto first then off split second later ... off and then auto split second later and none of these returns the "Ping" ... is there a particular way? ie ... key in position II or engine running and then auto first and off second etc.?

Many thanks.

John,

Does the audible warning (ping) sound when you select recirculated air?

Does it sound when you manually activate the diagnostic check as follows:
  • Press and hold the AUTO button and the air distribution button.
  • Turn the ignition key from 0 to II.

Hi Neill,
A quick way to turn the ping on (assuming your heater unit is not defective) is to remove power from it for a few seconds, either a battery off reset, or just unplug the 2 plugs on the back of the heater controller unit, wait 30 seconds, then plug back in. If this doesn't do the job, then I would assume your heater unit is defective, and a 2nd hand replacement can be fitted (without needing programming) as this is probably cheaper than trying to fix yours?

Chris

(although I always turn the pings off as soon as I can - I really find them annoying)

Sorry, due to a big change in home circumstances, I am unable to do any large jobs at present, but can still offer evening time diagnostics.

Thanks Simon

1. No audible warning (ping) when selecting recirculated air.

2. When the AUTO button and air distribution button is pressed and held a very faint ping can be heard ... but very faint.

Fitting a new radio tomorrow so I'll try this one Chris.

RAVE says that you should hear a ping in both the circumstances listed whether the feature is disabled or not. It says that the ECU (air con.) emits the ping. Over to you to work out what to do next!

Oh, just a thought. You say that you're fitting a new radio as well. It might be wise to resolve the ping problem first. If you encounter more unexpected problems when a new radio is fitted it will make fault finding for two conditions very difficult. 'Change one thing at a time' is a philosophy I have found to work very well.

I would guess that no 2 on this list is suggesting the sounder is gone in the air con module, an easy swap of module should cure this
Good luck
Chris

Think I have to accept the Ping has gone to the wind ... can't get it to make a squeek so I'll live with it ... besides it would hard to hear over the damn exhaust that's been fitted it's so LOUD !!!
