Default 75 and zt number plate lights

I need a new number plate light for my facelifted ZT. I saw an ad for a new 75 unit and on enquiring if it fitted a ZT the dealer said no as the part numbers are different.

Can anybody please tell me if number plate lights are interchangeable and will a 75 unit fit a ZT with a boot lip spoiler?

Many thanks.

The complete units are different if you are trying to order the plinth as well, but pretty sure the bulbs are the same, also the pcb part which is more than likely all you need

We're currently trying to secure stock of the PCB only, for a much cheaper repair than replacing the whole light module.
Unfortunately at the moment we have no complete assemblies - but as mentioned, they are indeed different (also different between Mk1 and Mk2).

Small sidenote, don't be tempted to put 10w bulbs in place of the standard 5w. The holders don't deal with the extra heat well at all.

Hi, the difference between the ZT and the 75's was quite basic. There are mouldings that fit inside the 75 plinth which help in reinforcing the strength of the plinth overall mainly as it is hollow. The MG versions don't have all of the mouldings because of the spoiler design not allowing them to fit inside.
This can be rectified by cutting away the sections not accommodate-able by the ZT spoiler framework and all will fit nicely. I would advise the use of a dremel when doing this because the structure becomes weakened when the fins are removed, and take your time doing it.
I can confirm this works after fitting a ZT spoiler to my 75 and others having completed the mentioned surgery. Happy to answer any questions via PM, and can send out repaired boards.

Good luck.
JohnH.

Thank you all for the advice. The problem arose when my local body shop broke the light when removing the boot lip spoiler to clean off some rust patches and respray the rear number plate panel and MG plinth. He thought it was bodged up anyway as it was so flimsy, or that was his excuse for breaking it in the first place.

I love driving the ZTs but sadly not technically minded enough to do what you suggest Heinz 57 but perhaps my local garage could if you send more details. I will PM you as I don't want to be off the road waiting for appropriate bits as it is my 'daily' car at the moment.

Best wishes,

Best wishes,
Mr Deltic, drop me your address details, and I will gift you one that I have repaired.
