Default Tow Bar Fitting (Not Rover /MG)

Some one I know wants to fit a Tow bar to their VW Golf and has been told that it will need it codeing to the Body ECU !!! have any of our Tech Guru's heard of this ?

This is the Info Given............... Depending on how new your golf is it will need coding to the ECU so you will need someone with a vag code reader. They are fairly common so even your local garage might be able to do this for you. Makes them expensive these days.......

My LR Discovery 3 needs the ECU CCF ( Car configuration File) altered when fitting the towing electrics, switches off the reversing sensors & sundry other alterations. Also alters the throttle mapping for towing when trailer attached. Later models have even more features such as a trailer stabilisation feature that need enabling and will often through a wobbly if not done.

Thanks for that,
The initial impression given was that the "Tow Bar" needed to be configured,,It now seems the garage did not explain that it was the Electrics that needed doing..to make the electrics work as per your Disco.

Hence my friends confusion.
