Diesel non starter
Hi guys need some help. Parked my diesel conny up at my mums 2 weeks ago and my brother has tried to move it a couple of days ago but engine will not turn over. Bought new battery and now fitted but still no joy in starting. Engine is still not turning over but everything else is working fine. Pumps running normally, plenty of fuel etc. Not had any previous symptoms of non starting and unfortunately I am away on holiday and relying on my brother to attempt to fix the problem. Anyone got any ideas He has arranged for RAC to come tomorrow but hoped someone might be able to point him in the right direction.
Many thanks Mark |

Sound like it may possibly be a starter motor problem - the contacts are a known failure point.

If everything is working as normal e.g. pumps running etc but won`t turn over is the car an automatic and is not in park or neutral as this would stop the engine turning and starting.

I believe our cars can suffer a problem with the immobiliser code if they're repeatedly tried to start with a flat battery. I think they can loose the code and you have to use your spare key instead. I'm no expert but you never know.

HI Mark if it turns out to be the starter then this thread will help you or your brother whom ever takes on the job, unless the RAC fit a new starter for you. Ask your brother to unplug the spade end on the starter give it a clean and see if the car starts, Fig 3 in the link below, also pic below https://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/for...d.php?t=227316

Update on non starter
OK guys a quick update on the non starting diesel. RAC came out tonight and managed to get car started by connecting a lead from the spade connector on the starter directly to the battery. Once started lead is removed and car runs no problem. When ignition is turned off car will not start on key. My brother only has the spare key so I cannot try mine until I return from holiday. RAC seems to think it is an immobiliser fault and will need a T4 session to fix. My question is whether it is a problem with the spare key or something else. If anyone has any suggestions as to anything else to check before I have to resort to hot wiring to get it started it would be gratefuly appreciated. I have never had any problems with starting before and this could potentially be a pain in the backside to find.
