Default CDT Renault Thermostat mod - help needed

I want to fit the Renault 5 thermostat to the top hose on my CDT Tourer but I'm a bit confused.

When I look at pictures of the thermostat on the web it seems to have a cylindrical part covering the end with the spring (see 1st link below). But when I look at Jules' description of how to install the thermostat I can't see this cylindrical part - has this all been cut away (see 2nd link)?

Thanks

Jules one does look different??. The one in the link(rockauto) is the unit we have being using.
Make sure you order the 89 deg.unit.
Check on the thread for "diesel thermostat difinitve answer."

Guys the Renault stats I fit DO have the Brass body.
It's hidden inside the hose on my photos.

If you do the job with a hot engine, and use a small amount of Silicone based lubricant, the stat pops straight into the hose quite easily!
I don't grind them down any more

MODS I need to edit the Renault Thread to avoid any further confusion??

It looks as if yours has a frame around the brass tube, the ones in the rockauto photo is exposed, Think the OP was just confused with the photos. That aside it does work well though.

Nope, No frame around it!!
If you read the original text of my HOWTO carefully you will see that I modified it slightly.

Things have moved on since then
