Default Tourer rear numberplate bulb replacement

I was talking today to someone who claimed that it was not a good idea to replace a failed bulb here from the outside of the car, using the procedure in the Owner's Handbook - I think because the clips are rather fragile.

Instead, the tailgate door card has to be removed to allow access to the tailgate handle.

Is this something I should believe?

I have changed these with the tailgate plinth attached to my ZTT from the outside, I have just been very careful when swapping the bulbs over.

Oops I used the manuals guide to see which side to prise off first. Do it slowly and gently and it pings out into your hand. Getting confident the second was too quick for me and I ended up rugby tackling it before it bounced into the road...

Clipping back in is a reverse obviously just dont force it, as an ex-injection moulding plant manager the plastic does feel a little like a poly carbon and it might snap.

Changed many times "from outside" , replaced with leds. Plastic pops out easy. Just have to be careful and do it slow.
