Default A bit peeved

My zed has been running like a well oiled sewing machine for the last 10 month, then 2 weeks ago I checked the coolant level and it was down a bit so I topped,it up and checked the oil cap for any mayo, there wasnt, it was nice and clean.
Coolant level checked daily and its ok,so today I checked the coolant again and I had to put about a litre and a half in, then checked the oil cap and theres some mayo in there, fantastic, just what I wanted to see
I think my first port of call will be the img.
If it is the hg then I think it will have to go to car heaven as its not the sort of job I want to tackle this time of year.

Strangely enough my first thought when I saw the mayo in the filler cap was
"I wish I still had my 827"

If you do a lot of shortish journeys, especially now it's cold can result in Mayo under the Cap... Not necessarily HGF - very uncommon on the V6 - not impossible, just un-common.

And as Cononite states, check Thermostat.

Strangely enough I've been off for a fortnight and the car has been used daily on short journeys, but where is the coolant going?
I know the O rings need changing on the cap so could this be the cause?

I checked the "V" earlier and its bone dry with no sign of any leakage.

My enthusiasm to change the pump and belts this time of year is on par with having my leg removed

I know this might sound strange, but are you sure you are not over-filling the Header Tank - The Full Mark is actually directly below the filler and is only about 2mm raised from the bottom of the tank directly below the filler, (not the other end) and to fill the Header Tank from that point takes about a litre of coolant! If you over-fill it will just push out the excess.
Basically if you can almost see all of those 2 little ridges to where they join the bottom of the Tank below the filler cap, it's full.

I hope I've explained that OK.....

Thanks Bill, thats where the levels been for the last 10 months, when I checked it today all I could see was the bottom of the tank !!
Fingers crossed the mayo is just from short runs and the coolant loss is from the worn rings on the cap which I have just remembered I have 2 new ones sat in the cupboard.

my zt was using water and while having some work on in at Austin garages, a slight drip as found and after investigation there as a crack in the coolant t piece. So it's not always bad news

Had exactly the same thing happen to me on my KV6.
The small amount of condensation under the oil cap is normal and will burn off if driven for a while. As long as there is not water in the oil dip stick or oil in the water everything is ok.
My coolant loss was the same until I changed the radiator cap.All fixed.
