Default Problem with dimmer on new stereo

Hi, i have recently an alpine 9880 stereo and it sounds so much better than original stereo, however when I switch on headlights the display flashes. So I have to leave the setting on the stereo to dimmer manual instaead of dimmer auto.
What could be causing this, the connections on the alpine are the regular ISO(2 of)

Also how do I get the steering controls to work, there is another block connection already in car that was originally connected to the old stereo, how do I connect that to the alpine as the alpine has a different kind of connection?
All help appreciated, thanks.
