Lower engine mount???
Hiya
Can somebody tell me how hard it is to change a lower engine mount on the KV6 2.5 please? I have searched it, and from what I can tell it doesn't sound a very big job at all?? Basically, the old gent I bought my car off had it serviced January 6th and on the bill there is an advisory for the mount. While I'm off work unable to drive, I thought I'd get it changed out, so I e-mailed several local garages who supposedly do collect and deliver, as well as two "mobile" mechanics. Not one of them has gotten back to me. Can it really be that hard????? I also tried the mobile people in Derby who are supposed to be Rover/MG specialists, they replied saying they needed to source a mount - I pointed them to Mat on here, and they STILL never got back. I'm a bit frustrated. Am I missing something? Is it harder than I thought? I just wanted to use the time I'm sitting around to get bits done, but it isn't happening! Dawn |

Hi there
it is 4 screw to change, and all in all around 10 minute job if you have all the good tools. Car need to be lifted up as it is on the bottom of the car. you also need a large hammer or spanner. you need a new part also. link: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/For-Rover-...gAAOSwt5hYa4DO

Maybe its just not an expensive enough job for the garages to want to do it then.

Basically they are no gooders, if they cannot return a simple call, would you want them working on your car ?
Straight forward enough exercise once the under tray is removed, jack the front of the car up and support as high as you can, a15mm spanner and or socket and a pry bar. Bend gently away the heat shield adjacent to the mount area to expose the 2 through bolts. Remove both bolts and use the pry bar to ease the mount away from it's location. Clean the area and install the new item, this may be a fight as the engine ihas freedom to move slightly. Negotiating the exact position is probably the worst part to do. |

Not at all! I normally use the guys on here, like Andy etc to do my jobs, but until I can drive again I'm a bit stumped. As I had read it was simple I thought any garage would/could do it and it was a job out the way. Apparently not!

I don't have an undertray either. I thought it was two bolts, but I can't even bend down to clean it yet, let alone get under the car. Hopefully as it was an advisory it will wait a bit.

Dawn, you've just been unlucky, any half decent mechanic could do that for you no problem. Source the part yourself and ask around, find someone you trust and bingo. Probably right that they can't be bothered with such a 'trivial' job.

I'm also sure I only had to use a 15mm spanner.

Yep, with no undertray, two bolts it is.
As said, no hammer required! |
