Tony

Depends on which bulb, but you can access outer one's by opening the small inspection flap in the wheel arch, turn wheel so the it faces inwards at the front then remove inspection flap, and you can then gain access via that method, but be careful not to lose spring clip

the good news is that the bumper only takes a few minutes to get off and gives great access to assess the area not normally seen

Gaining access to the bulbs is only part of the problem. More people have difficulty actually removing and refitting them. The Mk1 range uses a wire spring retainer for both the main and dipped beam bulbs (non-HID lamps). These give problems unless you know exactly how they work. This photo shows the principle.

Under no circumstances should the wire clip be detached from the bulb housing. If it is, the lamp may have to be removed to replace it.

The Mk2 lamps use a quarter turn bayonet system.

These are typically very tight. The H9s especially.
