Some do, some don't
My understanding is they are supposed to be dry sliding pins though.

Thanks I cleaned and greased with red rubber grease before and started stripping them down and the grease is thickening hardening but don’t know if that was because of the sticking piston

Update seems I asked this a while back and was told a light smear

And make sure the "wings" on the pads and the grooves on the carrier are clean 😎

Hi Robert,

Red rubber grease is specified for locations in contact with brake fluid such as the piston seals.
For the slider pins you could try white grease or even petroleum jelly. Anything which is waterproof and slippery will work!

Also don't forget to lubricate the metal-to-metal friction points between sliding caliper and carrier.

The guide /slide pins are not meant to be lubricated as grease can attack the rubber sleeve and attract dust which can turn it more sticky
I certainly wouldn't recommend any petroleum or solvent based products be used as it has the potential to attack the rubber slide sleeve
A good clean up with a wire brush is sufficient to ensure correct operation
The BMW instruction sheet for the brakes details that the guide screws as " do not grease"

No grease advised specifically

From the Rover 75/MG ZT workshop manual - service procedures:

Quote:
Brake pads - front
70.40.02

Refit

9. Lubricate guide pins with suitable anti-seize grease.
Same for rear pads.

I used copper slip, thought it was more correct than red rubber grease and is the usual thing to use for 'anti-seize' applications.
