Default diesel fan puzzling

so I did the demist test ...nothing ...gold resistor turned up today to be fitted

however now I have managed to get torque working (mini YAY) I have noticed at 85-86 degrees the fan cuts in only for a few seconds then stops when its dropped to about 84-85

would this be about right for low speed operation .. so why am I getting nothing on demist

or is it just the resistor is shot and doing what it feels like and thinking thats when high speed should kick in ?

No, it's not right. The 85-86°C figure is unrelated to the fan 'program'. The slow speed isn't tripped on until it's somewhat above 110°C. The behaviour suggests to me that there's an issue with the printed circuit board. They tend to break down and produce spurious effects as you've reported. If that's what it is, you'll likely have to replace it or ship it to France for Mike to fix it.

No, I'd say that's most unlikely.

Personally, I wouldn't trust that test Daz.

Presumeably because your silver resistor is open circuit. As you have purchased a gold type, why not fit it and see?

By the way, your slow speed should start running at 100°C which, by all accounts, you are very unlikely to experience. You should therefore rely on the demist test. Is your air conditioning in working order incidentally?

air con seems to be in working order Previous owner said it was regassed this year

and you do get a bit of cold air from it .. however with fan speed 1 not working then its never going to blow as it should ...

Gold resistor turned uo yesterday I am going to probably have a go tomorrow

think i've cracked it ... turned air con off and it doesnt do it ... must be the air con kicking in high speed on the pressure sensor

So now Daz you need to fit your gold resistor to get the slow speed working and find out why your air conditioning pressure is too high (quite often due to missing fins on the condenser).

I am guessing the air con pressure is getting to high due to excess heat

but no doubt the condensor will also need changing

Ill take a look with the bumper off
