front brake pads
for the mot last november the garage said that the inside pads at the front were getting low. i thought i would wait a bit before i replaced them thinking that they would last for a bit longer if they got too low then the warning would come on.
noticed today with the window down that the brakes were squeaky at low speeds. surely the display should whinge if the pads are too low. does the sensor only check the outer pads? |

IIRC the sensor only goes to one pad and only on one side (driver's side IIRC).
The sensor will tell you when 2 of your 8 pads are low only. Of course, if your brake system is functioning correctly that will be sufficient. If yours is wearing the inner pads faster than the outers then maybe the pads are not moving correctly in their runners? Chris

A wear sensor is attached to the inboard pad of the front and rear offside brakes. The squeaking doesn't necessarily mean the pads are worn out. When a sensor pops the screen warning, the pad in question has several thousand miles of normal use left. According to the handbook the warning is purposely given early to allow you ample time to arrange a service.
