Symphony / CD changer/MP3
My question is are all Symphony radios CD compatible?
I have no 6 pin connection available at the glove box or boot. The blue mini ISO plug at the radio which is used for CD connections has one wire only to pin 19 from the loom which is the K-bus connection. All other pins are not in use. Even if a CD changer harness was fitted to the loom, at a point which I beleive is behind the heater control panel, there would be no physical connection to the radio. Although the radio has CD/Tape button is it internally 'wired' Also does anyone know if the blue ISO could be used as an input from a MP3 player giving just basic play function or would the radio not recognise the connection? Again a Connect2 adaptor cannot be used as there is no harness or ISO wired. |

Yes all Symphonys are indeed CD compatable.
You need a new adaptor lead with the CD changer connections made. A connects 2 lead can be used as you unplug the mini isos and plug straight in. The unplugged mini isos go in a socket on the connects 2 adaptor. |

These are the only changers that will work the Symphony.
All are made by Alpine. XQE 100430 XQE 1005560 XQE 000110PMA VUB 102140 VUB 1005400 Any other changer will need an interface unt between the Symphony and the changer. Here are the wire connections for the 10 pin plug that goes into the Alpine changer and alongside connections to the Blue mini ISO plug. 1 Yellow/black= audio R +ve = pin 14 Blue mini iso 2 Black/yellow = audioR - ve = pin 17 " " " 3 not used 4 not used 5 White/red/yellow K Bus = pin 19 " " " 6 Pink/black = audioL +ve = pin 13 " " " 7 Black/pink = audioL -ve = pin 16 " " " 8 Black = changer earth= pin 15 " " " 9 not used 10 Purple/pink = changer perm. feed = pin 20 Blue mini iso The answer to can the Blue mini ISO plug be used for an input for a MP3. Afraid the answer is no. You can buy a interface that does this but it does not use the Blue plug, It uses the power ISO plug. Last, your K Bus connection is used for the speed dependent volume feature.. Dave T |

You mention the Connects2 adaptor - do you mean the ARVIPOD adaptor? - if so I am afraid it is of no use to me I do not have a Apple ipod just a MP3 player and was hoping to use the headphone socket to supply the signal to the radio.
There doesn't look as though the is a cost effective option for me going down the CD changer route. The Rover CD harness is I think around £50 plus a compatible Rover CD changer around another £50. I have a Kenwood changer which would mean the Rover harness plus a Connects2 or Soundlinx adaptor £50/60. |

the adaptor for your kenwood doesn't sound overly expensive to me.
Bear in mind I just spent £150 on a symphony and changer... New ICE and would cost similar for a good system. |

I am sure you are right - I am listing a Soundlinx Kenwood/BMW adaptor on Ebay at the moment I could use the cash from that towards it.
