Default ICE ideas

Been thinking about installing some DVDs in the car.

Instead of going the 2 screen headrest route how about this idea ?

Any input for/against

http://www.car-vision.co.uk/product_...8b9a9388ea758e

2 video inputs. Easy installation. No more rising heads. Use this new 8.5 inch central armrest TFT LCD monitor with adjustable horizontal and vertical levels, you don't need to rise your head to watch (as flip down monitor) and you don't need to spend more money to purchase 2 headrest monitors. Armrest monitor has an adjustable distance between 15.5 cm to 21 cm letting it fit most armrest all over the world.
You should not use or attempt to view the screen if you are the driver. There's nothing wrong with pulling over to enjoy your favorite movie with your family in the backseat of your car.

Key features:
◆International Certificates: CE, FCC
◆100% Brand new 1 PCS
◆8.5 inch central armrest TFT LCD monitor
◆Game player, wireless remote control
◆350°angle swiveling
◆3 shaft revolving
◆2 section fixing
◆Color system: PAL/NTSC
◆Resolution:800xRGBx600
◆Full function remote control
◆Dual video inputs
◆Installed at the central armrest of your car

Personally, Andy, I wouldn't fit this type of unit:
  • It really looks like an "add-on" and completely non-OEM. I'm not saying that the headrests DVDs look OEM but they are less "in your face"
  • Will all rear seat passengers get a good look at the single screen
  • How good will the mounting system be? A lot of generic stuff like this can be a poor fit
  • If you have 2 youngsters like I do, then they will never agree on the same DVD
  • I just don't like the look of it

Sorry I can't be more positive

What colour is your interior? Obviously black would be an easy match.

I screwed mine directly to the roof lining. I was unsure if this would last, but its been up there for nearly 2 years now and is still going strong. If you want more support then on the tourer there is a cross member which would could drill and tap to provide more support.

I have an 8 inch flip down screen, I would like to strip out the roof lining to make a tidier job for mounting purposes.

Thats a nice looking bit of kit Rob, look forward to getting mine fitted now

For proposed system.
1 - Does the screen fold away when not in use?
2 - If you brake hard, will the screen (if in up position) fold forwards & inhibit movement of your left arm on the gear stick or handbrake?

Re: Fitting roof mounted system to roof, the BMW manual (See item 7 in http://bmwfans.info/original/E46/tou...5/ill-65_1412/ ) shows a bracket that supports the unit. I assumed that it went behind the roof lining & bolted to one of the cross members or roof, but realise now that it might not. It probably says which in the instructions.

Regards,
Kearton
