2002 Radio/CD player wont turn off

As it says in the title, the Radio/CD wont turn off or do anything else. It comes on playing the same CD in the stack but will not do anything. Leaving the ignition turned off for a while does reset it.

Any ideas whats wrong and how to fix. Getting bored listening to the same CD with no traffic info.

Its been like this for a few days and today I kept pressing all the buttons one after the other and then it returned to normal. Strange! Electronic gremlins presumably. It cannot be a common fault as nobody offered a solution.
