Could it be the RDS system or those blue boxes that monitor traffic flow. Something is triggering it and it was not my mobile and I don't think it was WIFI. Steve |

It's none of those. The units receive traffic live data as I've already explained. They do not receive it through the RDS data or the (now largely defunct) blue TMC transmitters dotted around our road networks

The simple answer is to go into settings and uncheck 'hstoric traffic data' and see if it still does it - I'm willing to bet it won't but

OK history was cleared, no mobiles on in the car and it did it again yesterday on the M25.
I was caught in a traffic jam and as I approached the M4 it gave me an option to avoid the congestion, I took the option and it took me on a route I did not even know existed. As SWMBO said ''it is smoke an mirrors@@ but I like. |

The GPS system does not send traffic data It's purely a system to triangulate a position The only way you could receive traffic data is through the poles at the side of the road for TMC which have pretty much all been switched off, the Rds traffic data which is broadcast on the Classic Fm frequencies I believe or from an Internet connection or phone network connection. So somehow if no internet is being used it must have got it from the radio broadcast which is news to me on the Navall3 It cannot receive it from the satellites, the Americans aren't nice enough to beam up live traffic from the whole world into space and then beam it back down again

A separate part of your GPS system has the maps, which it can put on the display along with your reported by the GPS position on that map. My first GPS system contained just the GPS reception unit, that output a text string of bare Lat/Long information, ASL and the time, which it did every second. I then fed that text string into an early laptop, which ran maps and calculated routes on the then very crude maps.
